I always love photography that, if for nothing at all, is extremely sensual. I think when you’re overexposed to the conceptual nature of the photograph (most of which is painfully absent of character; has post-modernism taught us nothing?) you can forget that the medium is aptly suited for presenting light, and the wide spectrum of feeling it can display, in such a way as to be both pleasurable and thought provoking.

It makes me laugh when I listen to art historians, critics, etc, talk about work from artists like Bernd and Hilla Becher and only really discuss its political and social importance, totally bypassing the photograph’s intrinsic beauty. An artist like Idris Khan has built his career in form or another on this quality.

So for today, instead of talking about the narrative aspects present within Kate Greene’s work, I’m going to simply direct you to her site (take note; perfect display sizes for these photos) and encourage you to really think about what is more important, beauty or concept?
